There’s no better attitude adjustment than an “altitude adjustment”. Whether feeling weary and listless, unsure and unsatisfied or just missing the motivation to move forward, tons of people around the globe use skydiving to combat the doldrums of the day to day.

While we can’t medically prescribe you a skydive, we insist that skydiving can be as therapeutic as it is fun. Before you nix the idea completely, right off the bat, we want you to know skydiving is not just for adrenaline junkies or death-defying daredevils who live on the edge; it’s for anyone, and if your needing a boost, here’s how it can help.

Prove Possibility

Like a record stuck on repeat, we are told time and time again that the things we would like to achieve are impossible. And when certain life events challenge everything we know, it’s easy to buy in to that falsehood. In part, it is easier to believe we cannot do something: in that way, we never have to expend the effort to get past the struggle and never have to face ourselves if we fail.

Perhaps, there’s an event in your life that’s really giving you the run around. It might be time for a reminder: you can handle this. Guests come to us from all walks of life facing a myriad of challenges and changes in their lives: separations and divorces, life changing diagnoses, or the loss of loved ones.

Many find the shift in perspective that comes from the change in altitude can do a number for your psyche and your outlook. Skydiving can give you the life reboot you need to approach what you’re experiencing from a new point of view.

Power Up with a Self-Confidence Boost

Throughout your life, there will be times where your friends and family will tell you you’ve gone off your rocker. Hey, you might even start to believe them! Sometimes, though, you’ve got to take a leap of faith and stroll right off the deep end.

This instance is magnified in skydiving. Having the strength (even if your knees are shaking, stomach’s quaking, and your heart is beating with a force near off the Richter scale) to face the naysayers and give it a go, to conquer something that scares you, to affirm that you are capable of anything, and to silence your inner critic by showing what you’re made of? Now, that’s what you call a confidence boost.

Whether it’s a new job, a budding relationship, or a big move, skydiving can give you the jolt you need to realize, if you can jump out of a plane, you can do anything.

Practice Mindfulness

Mindfulness is a legitimate psychological process whereby one’s attention is focused entirely on experiences occurring in the present moment. So much of our collective anxiety arises from attempting to anticipate what is going to happen in the future or focusing backwards on immutable events from our past.

Skydiving is one of the ultimate mindfulness practices. On each jump, for a satisfying sixty seconds, there is nothing but the present. To many, these moments of respite are priceless, and we return again and again to those unparalleled minute increments of healing.

We love bringing new skydivers to share in the therapy of freefall. We know each of our guests that join us at Long Island Skydiving Center carries a story with them. While you don’t have to share, we are happy to do the job that we do, and if you feel inclined to share your story, please do.
