What are the Health Benefits of Skydiving?

A skydiving company talking about the health benefits of skydiving…seems a bit suspect. We aren’t pulling your leg; it’s entirely legitimate. Skydiving benefits people in a myriad of ways. Want to know more? Here’s the deal with the health benefits of skydiving.
Skydiving the Great Motivator
Though we know an individual’s health is not directly correlated to their weight, for those on a weight loss journey, skydiving can be a great motivator. Our weight limit at Long Island Skydiving Center is 250 lbs. Many of our customers use this as a target goal to shed extra weight and to celebrate that weight loss, in turn, with a tandem skydive. Time and time again, we have seen that setting a specific goal to get beneath our weight limit of 250 lbs is often the perfect motivator, and we think that is a pretty great skydiving benefit.
A Fully Natural Happiness Chemical Cocktail
The immediate health benefits of skydiving are, in truth, more mental than physical. Mentally, skydiving kicks your happiness production into overdrive. In part, this is thanks to an evolutionary response mechanism commonly called “fight or flight.” Sure, it doesn’t sound like a happiness booster, but allow us to explain. In response to both stress and excitement, your body enters “fight or flight.” At that time, several hormones are released, namely adrenaline, dopamine, and serotonin. For those unfamiliar with the last two neurotransmitters, the hormone dopamine is closely associated with feelings of happiness, and serotonin is a hormone linked directly with mood regulation.
The skydiving benefit: during a skydive, this feel-good natural chemical cocktail is released. The result is a near euphoric sensation that can last anywhere from 20 minutes to 60 minutes after you land from skydive. Aside from the immediate mental pick-me-up after a skydive, another health benefit of skydiving is a shift in your perspective.
Mental Outlook Upgrade
Skydiving can really put things in perspective, and we don’t just mean literally. (After all, you will get a view of the earth from nearly 2 miles above the ground.) Rather, skydiving calls into question what is really important. After making a skydive, you may re-asses certain aspects of your life in order to determine what really makes you happy. So many of our days are wrapped up in routine. Though this routine may be comfortable, is it really what’s best?
Skydiving will really “flip the script.” Once you see what heights (literally and metaphorically) you can reach, you may start to see that you’ve been holding yourself back. One of the best skydiving benefits is realizing what you can accomplish and a healthy reminder that you’ve got a life to live. So, what are you waiting for, get out there and live it!
Are you ready to take a leap and take advantage of all the skydiving benefits we’ve described? Give us a call and let’s get you in the air with a tandem skydive to experience these skydiving benefits first hand.
